True to her word, Elyse went home that evening, having dealt with Poe and had started measuring out the ingredients for her own recipe of chocolate cake. She had changed into some civilian clothes, just some leggings and an academy tank top and was wearing an apron. She was looking forward to repaying the favour of looking after Tholos in his time of need.
Hearing the chime, she smiled to herself, "enter." Elyse looked over the counter and smiled seeing Tholos, "hey. I'm in the kitchen and I promise I'm not standing on a counter giving a light a love tap this time."
He smiled a little. "That's great." He had stopped home to shower, change into some jeans and a sweatshirt that had become comfortable to him. He had also brought a small bag with him. Walking over to the kitchen he placed the gift bag on the counter. "For you."
Elyse looked taken back that he'd brought her something. He looked him over before reaching for the bag, "I always find it strange whenever I see coworkers outside of uniform. Suits you though." Elyse opened the bag and looked inside, "you didn't have to get me anything. It's my turn to look after you."
"Yes but my parents always told me to never show up emptyhanded to someone's home. It's bad manners." He grinned. "Besides it's the best hot chocolate across three galaxies."
Elyse pulled out the powder and read the name, "oh... My gawd... You can absolutely come here again. I love it. Thank you. Beats bringing a bottle of wine any day." She placed the powder next to her hot drink maker and turned back around to continue weighing things. She then starter putting everything in the bowl and putting the mixer down. She paused though, and looked confused by the machine. It was different from the one she used to own. "Ever used this make before?"
He grinned. "Yup." He walked over and took the mixer. "The button is hidden here. You select how finally you want to mix and set that hear and then a small holo whisk comes out and adjusts the speed."
Elyse followed his gaze and nodded taking in the instructions carefully. "Grateful you're an engineer and can cook, otherwise I'd have to mix this all by hand." She poured in the last of the ingredients and then flipped the switch and selected what she wanted. The mixer, however, had other ideas and short-circuited sending batter flying everywhere before smoking a little.
Tholos laughed. "You have bad luck with all things technology and it's cute."
Elyse just froze for a moment, but it soon ended with giggles, "genuinely, technology hates me. I was born in the wrong era." She looked him over and saw how much was on him, "gawd, you are covered. I am so sorry."
He laughed. "Well it does taste nice." He used his finger to wipe some from his cheek and taste it. "I call it edible fashion."
Elyse shook her head and chuckled softly, wiping her own cheek and tasting it, "I agree." She then reached up and wiped some from near his eye, "gawd, let's not blind you with cakes"
He grinned. "It's cake. It's all good."
Elyse paused just as she went to pull a hand away from the cake batter near his eye. His grin just seemed to catch her off guard and she felt so pull to him. Blinking away the thought, she pulled her hand away and reached for a cloth and wiped down her hands and face, not realizing that she had left some on her cheek. She then went to hand him the cloth,, "nonetheless, sorry. Still, at least you have snacks in the form if cake batter for later. Oh gawd," she chuckled, "you've even got it on your antenna. I'm so sorry!"
He laughed. "One can never have too much cake."
Elyse handed over the cloth and sighed, stepping a little closer to him, "I mean, it's true, but still." Elyse wasn't a touchy-feely person with anyone but someone she liked, but with Tholos, she felt drawn to try and help the clean up process. She started wiping his jumper still oblivious to any chocolate she'd missed on herself and more worried about him.
He smiled. "I'm okay. Really." Thol sighed. "Besides you got just as much on you." He gently used his thumb to remove a glob of cake batter from her cheek.
Elyse blushed gazing up into his eyes as he used his thumb to wipe away a smear of batter. Elyse was not a trusting person, certainly when it came to physical contact, she avoided it like the plague. Yet she found herself leaning into his touch a little. Her blush only deepened upon realising what she'd done, but she made no effort to move. "Well," she began but what followed was just a stuttered mess, "no need to lick the bowl-- you have it on your hands already."
He smiled at her. "Can I help with the baking?"
"I--I-- umm," Elyse dropped her gaze and pulled away a little, trying her hardest to not get she'd of herself and certainly not to make a fool of herself. But the stutter continued, "yes, y-you m-m-m-ay." Elyse took a deep breath and closed her eyes, desperately trying to find composure and push out the thoughts she was having. After a moment she opened her eyes and nodded, "yes, although I will not be touching tech ology unless it's an oven again." She leaned over and grabbed a whisk, getting the bowl and handing it to him, "you can whisk and I will weigh."
He grinned. "Deal and for the record I really want to kiss you," Thol said.
Elyse started to weigh out some liquid chocolate when he suddenly dropped the bomb about wanting to kiss her. At that exact second, she squeezed the bag a bit too tightly and it went up onto her neck and splattered onto her chin and lips. Her cheeks flushed bright red and she looked up at him in shock, "wh-wh-what?"
"Just being honest." He said and then took in her chocolate covered form and laughed.
