Mission:
Forgotten Wounds
Location: Klingon Ship
Timeline: Current
ON:
The darkness was replaced by the sounds of machines and the scent of antiseptic. He’d been in enough sickbays to know when he was in one. Sabastian also knew that opening his eyes suddenly would hurt so he took his time, tested his memory. The last thing he remembered was being questioned rather…enthusiastically by a rather large Klingon. He must have passed out or more likely, been knocked out.
Sabastian suppressed a moan as he took stock of his limbs. Hands, worked, feet, worked, legs worked, arms moving, neck okay. He then slowly opened his eyes only to come face to face with, well the face, of someone he hadn’t seen in a while.
“Kormoth.”
The Klingon smiled his teeth showing. “So you remember.”
Sabastian snorted. “You’re kind of hard to forget.”
Kormoth laughed but quietly. He looked around. “Keep your eyes closed and you may live. They will come to find out if you woke up yet. Keep still until they leave.”
Sabastian’s brow furrowed but he did as he was told. As predicted by Kormoth a couple of Klingons came, asked if he was awake, stood around him, if he was sensing right, and then left.
He felt a hand on his shoulder. “They are gone. We have an hour.”
Sab opened his eyes and watched as the Klingon used a tricorder of sorts. “You’re ribs are knitting, the bleeding internally was stopped. I would not suggest another questioning, at least if you want to live.”
Sab sighed. “You became a doctor, like you wanted.”
Kormoth sighed. “Yes. But the more I work for these ingrates the more angry I get. I’m a doctor not a warrior, at least not in the way they want me to be.”
Sab reached out and touched Kormoth’s hand. “A doctor is noble. I wish you had gone to Vulcan like we talked about when we met.”
"I did. I did not stay." He shrugged. “I wanted to know my father’s people too. My mother is long since remarried and there is not place for me there. I returned for her but she cast me out.”
Sab sighed. "I'm sorry Kor." He squeezed Kormoth's hand.
After a pause Sabastian asked, “Why are you helping me? This could get you into trouble.”
Kormoth looked around. “Not all of us want war. Our Engineer was able to get a message to your people. They are not far from here. He’s clouded the sensors but not for long.”
“Arcadia is here?”
“Yes. The High Council is also against this so we’ll find a way to return you home.”
Sab was silent. “What will happen to those who helped me?”
The Klingon was silent.
“Shit.”
“Indeed.”
Sab sat up with Kormoth’s help and winced.
“What hurts?”
Sab sighed. “Everything.”
Kormoth grinned. “You said that after we…”
“Yes well Klingons do everything bigger.” He sighed.
Kormoth laughed. “Indeed. How have you been. Did you ever marry Del?”
Sab groaned. Another name from the past. “No. I hurt Del, badly. I chose Zai.”
Kormoth scoffed. “That donkey’s behind?”
Sab smiled. “You still don’t swear.”
“It’s a vile habit. So you married the idiot.”
“That one you have no problem with.”
“Not a swear,” Kormoth said. “That’s a fact of who Zai was. He was known on all the Orion circles.”
Sab sighed. “Yeah, and he betrayed me and hurt me and thankfully it’s over.”
“You divorced?”
“No he died doing something selfless.”
Kormoth snorted. “I knew he was evil and if he did anything good it would kill him.”
Sab groaned. “Why did everyone see his true shade before me?”
Kormoth rubbed Sabastian’s back. “Because, my friend, you are too nice and wish to believe the good in him and you were clouded by your feelings.”
“Yeah.” Sab looked around. “Will they question me again?”
“If they find you awake then yes. I have bought us some time so that at least you are less injured when they come. Hopefully your people will try to help before they get to you again.”
Sabastian scrubbed his hand down his face. “Why did they come? I mean hell they could get hurt trying to rescue me.”
“Starfleet never leaves a man behind.”
Sab looked over at Kormoth. “Neither do I. You won’t survive here either. You were helping me.”
“Yes. You are worth it.”
Sabastian turned cupping Kormoth’s face, his memories floating through his mind. “If something happens to me and my people get on this ship. Find the leader ask for Asylum. You are half Vulcan if Starfleet is stupid Vulcan will not be. Get to Vulcan.”
“No I…”
“Kormoth promise me. You need to get off this ship. Find a way.”
He gave a nod. "If they don't phaser me on sight."
"They won't. Our officers have better control."
Before he could say something the doors hissed open and the chaos descending ending in Sabastian being dragged back to interrogation and Kormoth heading to Engineering to check the progress on the Arcadia as well as planning how to get Sabastian back to sickbay and relative safety.
